Sun’s Out, Cones Out!

Sun’s Out, Cones Out!

Summer is here and that means one thing – trialling and testing various ice cream parlours to cool us down in the tastiest way possible.

To help all the ice cream fans out there, we’ve suggested some locations to visit with your caravan or motorhome to sample some of the best ice cream that Scotland has to offer.

Aberdeenshire

Aberdeen has several fantastic ice cream venues from which to choose. Fans of the Scottish classic Mackie’s can visit the ice cream parlour in Aberdeen’s Marischal Square or they can sample the various delicious flavours available at Cones and Candy in Westhill. Another Aberdeen favourite is Casa di Gelato, which offers a range of exotic flavours at its King Street location, including vegan coconut and avocado ice cream.

For anyone looking for a seaside staycation further afield in Aberdeenshire, Aunty Betty’s in Stonehaven is a must-visit – and a short drive south on the new AWPR. Located on the beachside promenade a stone’s throw from the Queen Elizabeth Park Caravan Club site, Aunty Betty’s is popular with both locals and tourists for its wide array of treats – including special ice creams for your dog!

Moray

Visitors can take a break from exploring the rugged coastline surrounding Portsoy to enjoy a cone at Portsoy Ice Cream. Located near Portsoy Links Caravan Park and close to the town’s 17th-century harbour, this hidden gem offers a dizzying array of flavours. Everything is made locally in the Moray Firth and fans of traditional flavours like strawberry and honeycomb might even be encouraged to try sensational new flavours like unicorn or hot cross bun!

Largs

Caravan campers visiting beautiful Loch Ness may want to make a detour to Miele’s Gelateria in Inverness. The ice cream is freshly made on-site and comes in a regularly updated selection of delicious flavours. The area also has plenty of local caravan sites, Loch Ness Bay Camping offers visitors a loch-side place to pitch their caravans, or they can step back in time at the historic Culloden Moor Caravan and Motorhome Club Site.

Perth

And for those taking their caravan or motorhome south towards Perth, the Stewart Tower Dairy offers something a little different. Visitors will get a complete “from cow to cone” experience as they take in Perthshire’s scenic countryside at the working dairy farm and sample some of the dairy’s own ice cream.

Loch Ness

Caravan campers visiting beautiful Loch Ness may want to make a detour to Miele’s Gelateria in Inverness. The ice cream is freshly made on-site and comes in a regularly updated selection of delicious flavours.
